My 9 year old son has been a stutterer for 5 years, he is an avid sleep talker and although it is almost incoherent, one thing that I can tell is that he does not stutter in his sleep talk!
I stutter in my dreams. It's very similar to how I stutter when I'm awake, sometimes even more severe... although I suspect that it is the most severe stuttering that I remember best as that sometimes wakes me up. Paul
I found this thread just now because I Googled stuttering during sleep. My 11 year old son has had a stutter since age 6. He's asleep right now and I literally just heard him clearly stuttering while talking in his sleep! He was making a statement: "So.So.So.So.So...Y.Y.Yooou just...."

ReplyDeleteHey Tom,
ReplyDeleteFor many years, I was covert in my dreams. I knew I was making progress in therapy when I began stuttering in my dreams.
As I recall, I think Jamie said on a StutterTalk episode that when she talks in her sleep, she stutters.

I too have heard myself stutter in my dreams, but don't believe I have ever actually talked aloud in my sleep.
ReplyDeleteDo you ever tape record yourself?

ReplyDeleteMy 10 year old is the same. Has stuttered since he was 3 years old. He always talks in his sleep with no stuttering.
DeleteNever stuttered in my dreams or sleep before, hmmm...

My son has stuttered all his life. (He’s 13) He also talks in his sleep. And he even stutters in his sleep just as much as when he’s awake.
